Libertarian Party candidate for state auditor Al Ozonoff pledges to get the ballot-passed audit of the state legislature completed, and to audit the operations of other government agencies. “Massachusetts collects a lot of data on government operations. We should use that information to identify waste, duplication, and programs that fail to deliver value to the Commonwealth.”
A research scientist with a PhD, Ozonoff plans to use his research and management skills to good use as auditor, especially in tech- and data-based fields. “Government technology projects frequently run over budget and underperform,” Ozonoff says. “I will prioritize rigorous oversight of major technology procurements and consulting contracts.”

Ozonoff also plans to engage in across-the-board auditing, checking even longstanding government programs for effectiveness. “Massachusetts citizens deserve to know whether surveillance programs like license plate readers,” the Medford resident added, “are actually reducing crime and whether appropriate safeguards exist to protect civil liberties.”
Even the migrant crisis and the Bay State’s “right to shelter” guarantees are not sacred cows beyond public analysis for efficiency. “Massachusetts has spent billions on emergency shelter programs,” Ozonoff added, stating that “Taxpayers deserve independent audits to determine where the money went, whether programs achieved their stated goals, and whether spending was managed effectively.”
